"The original site was the private residence of Fu Daofu in 1928. In 1940, it was renovated into a British diaspora’s residence , designed by architect Zhang Xinzai. In 1946, it served as the official residence of British Consul Gao Changlu, and in 1952, it became the residence of Chen Changhao, the original political commissar of the Fourth Red Army. During his stay, he recuperated and translated Marxist and Leninist works. When Lao She's novel "Er Ma" was adapted into a television series, many scenes set in London were filmed in Qingdao, including the home of the pastor, which was filmed in this villa.
Ren Design are honored to be invited to redesign the interior and the landscape, reflecting its inherent English Tudor-style essence from the inside out. During the summer months, a portion of the garden is open to the public."
